Established by James Duigan in London in 2007, Bodyism is one of the most exclusive wellness companies in the world. OneChicMom chatted to Jess, Clean and Lean’s head of marketing, to get the lowdown on what makes Clean and Lean so successful.
The Clean and Lean philosophy is to be kind to yourself. It’s not about dieting. It’s about making a positive change to your life and re-addressing the way that you think, getting rid of shame and guilt, boosting self-confidence and making yourself healthier and happier.
The founders James Duigan and his wife Christiane, originally from Australia moved here in 1996, starting out with personal training studio in South Kensington. James is a highly inspirational person. The Clean and Lean book collection has sold over 1 million copies. Both James and Christiane attend our gyms regularly. We have a complete wellness offering which encompasses our books, cafés, gyms, clothing, and supplements. The whole brand is called Bodyism, and clean and lean is the nutrition part.
Clean and Lean Nutrition
The Bodyism philosophy around food is very much based around healthy nutritious, unprocessed food. One of our tag lines is “cut the crap”, which is coffee, refined sugar, alcohol and processed food. Refined sugar is the one that people struggle with the most. Nutrition is an easy way to make a significant change in your life. We have some simple nutritional recipes available to help this.
Bodyism has four gyms worldwide. Our flagship is in Notting Hill; we also have one in Capri, The Maldives, and Turkey. There’s a mixture of exercises including Pilates, yoga, ballet, boxing and our signature clean & lean class (combination of all mentioned). These all focus on refined movements which work your muscles without it being too aggressive. We have experienced trainers at our gyms, our boxing teachers are professionals, and our ballet teachers are ex-ballerinas, so they are all specialists in what they teach. We have some quick exercise routines, which are ideal for people that cannot get to a gym. Our brand is about fitting it into your life and making it work for you.
Be self-aware and mindful of what you are eating and the way that you eat. Avoid sitting in front of the television when eating your meals, turn your phone off, eat slower, and enjoy the food. We encourage meditation and taking time out for yourself.
If you are not getting a good night’s sleep, it affects everything that you do. At our gyms we talk to our clients a lot about routine before you go to sleep and promote one of our supplements called serenity, it contains herbs and supplements including chamomile, magnesium, and others to assist you in having a good night’s sleep.
The ultimate message from Clean & Lean and Bodyism is to be kind to yourself. It’s about listening to your body and if one day you want something sweet like a piece of chocolate cake, have a piece and enjoy it but just have it as an occasional treat and not every day.
‘Bodyism’ and ‘Clean & Lean,’ offer a total wellness solution including bespoke personal training, supplements, clothing and six best-selling books.
