The key to a healthy lifestyle for me is good preparation, if I don’t plan my meals it goes off the rails every time and I mean EVERY time too. Weekly success starts with a well stocked fridge of healthy foods, I prefer my delivery on a Friday, as it gives me the weekend to start prepping delicious healthy meals for the week. Here are my top five healthy fridge favourites.
Poached Salmon Fillets
A healthy way to start your day and popular amongst athletes. Poached salmon provides high levels of protein, Omega-3 fatty acids, high Vitamin D content and a great source of good cholesterol. Eat it hot or cold, with a good portion of salad or vegetables…delicious!
An excellent source of protein and low in bad cholesterol, this is a staple for anyone wanting to get lean in a few short weeks. I recommend North East Arctic & Canadian prawns. A typical 100g serving contains 17g of Protein and practically zero fat! Mix them into a leafy green salad for lunch or dinner.
Free Range Eggs
I couldn’t manage without free range eggs. They really are a slimmers saviour. Eggs are a great source of high-quality protein and many other nutrients. One large egg contains essential vitamins & minerals, 6g of high-quality protein and all nine of the essential amino acids. Eggs are also an excellent source of choline, selenium, vitamin D, B12. Remember most of the vitamins and minerals in an egg are lost if the yolk is discarded!
Freshly sliced Mango
Somehow just having this in the fridge evokes memories of a tropical beach holiday! They taste great and complement almost any meal. They are very low in saturated fat, cholesterol, and sodium and are a rich source of dietary fibre, Vitamin B6, A & C.
I try to include a little avocado each week. The health benefits of these little green fruits are endless. Avocados contain healthy fats that help the body heal and sustain normal function, not forgetting they are also an amazing source of vitamins. Enjoy in moderation!
