Healthy eating is definitely all in the prep. If I don’t plan and prepare my meals in advance, it always ends up with me reaching for an unhealthy alternative. I find that including 2 healthy snacks in the day, one mid morning and one mid afternoon, works wonders for keeping my energy levels up. A little planning ahead will ensure you’re making healthy choices all week. Here are some of my favourites:
Chocolate can be good for you. Raw chocolate is a true super-food and is jam packed with antioxidants. High in minerals such as iron, magnesium, and manganese it helps to sustain energy levels and protect cells. It’s perfect for anyone wanting to eat cleaner or those who are lactose intolerant. My favourite is brand is Ombar, who offer a variety of choices in a range of delicious flavours.
Homemade Trail Mix
Mix any of the following; pumpkin seeds, unsalted nuts such as hazelnuts, almonds or brazil nuts, dried blueberries, apricots or cranberries, toasted coconut chips, buckwheat flakes and oats. Jax Coco does Chilli & Lime Coconut Chips which give the trail mix a real kick. Finish off with a little pink Himalayan rock salt or a sprinkling of cinnamon. I make a big jar on a Sunday to dip into during the week.
Vegetable Sticks with Homemade Hummus
Chop carrots, celery, broccoli sticks and peppers and serve with a little homemade hummus. Keep the vegetables prepared ready in the fridge for a super quick and healthy snack. If you have to buy shop bought hummus, stick to the organic brands to eliminate any unnecessary ingredients.
Oatcakes with Avocado
A super healthy snack and quick to prepare. Avocados are a unique type of fruit, full of healthy fats and fibre. They do have endless health benefits, so start adding them onto your weekly shop.
Natural Yoghurt and Fresh Berries
Natural Yoghurt is super healthy and totally delicious, throw on a few blueberries, blackberries or raspberries and it is good enough for a healthier dessert too. My top recommendation is Rachel Organic
