The Art of Mindfulness


Honestly I must have a thousand things on my to do list,  it’s endless! It’s so easy to become so wrapped up in our day to day tasks and prioritising the needs of others; it’s so easy to overlook our own health and wellbeing. Believe me I really know this first hand. How often do we really live in the moment and really appreciate the lives we have? Mindfulness is the energy of being aware of the present moment.

Mindfulness is a practical approach to relaxation and a stress-free lifestyle, which can include breathing techniques, meditation, and relaxation. Experts suggest that just 10 minutes a day, done every day, to let your mind relax is beneficial to your overall wellbeing.

So how do you practice the art of Mindfulness?

Firstly focus on your breathing, taking deep breaths in through your nose, and out through your mouth. This focus will help you take your mind off any immediate stressful thoughts you may be having. Despite the jokes about multi-tasking, the brain can only concentrate on one main focus at a time.

Once you have mastered the breathing techniques, enable thoughts to pass through your mind, think of them as clouds, observing them but not immersing yourself in them. Distance yourself from any negative thoughts, but also allow yourself to analyse them. You can either think of the best solutions or simply let them go.

Carrying out mindfulness helps you to understand that you can be in control of your thoughts, and have the ability to manage and distance yourself from stress and everyday worries in your life; which ultimately allows you to think of things in your life which you appreciate and enjoy.
