October half term with the kids this year, is going to be a different with the current COVID 19 pandemic. Whilst I want to keep the children safe and protected I do feel it’s important to keep the kids entertained during the holidays.
I always think that the October half term can be a little more tricky and weather dependant. There is still plenty on offer to keep everyone entertained and happy if you do your research beforehand.
As a family, we love to go out into the countryside, whether that’s biking or walking and the National Trust offers some great locations. In past years they have had Halloween activities available but due to COVID, these may be scaled back this year. However there are no restrictions on the national trust open spaces, so why not grab two wheels and follow one of the cycle paths at many of the NT locations, check the website for details. Even on a wet day, there is generally a picnic spot to shelter, and whilst on the bike, the rain just adds to the fun.
If cycling is not your passion then there are many walks on offer that are perfect for children of all ages. I have found that walks with stepping stones or a nature trail are perfect for children as they tend to hold their interest. No one wants a bored unhappy child !!
If you have older children you might want to check out a local water sports facility. They tend to offer paddleboard, canoes, kayaks, etc and the weather won’t impact the day. If you are feeling energetic then why not join the kids at go ape, these facilities are still managing to operate safety during COVID and I think you will find kids of all ages will have a great time.
One point to note is that you need to plan, book your tickets, do your research, check opening times, and COVID restrictions. This may also apply to lunches, so plan and take a picnic or make a lunch booking ahead of the day.
Some stunning locations in the UK might be undiscovered and on your doorstep and grateful for your business. Stay safe but make memories and have a great half term with the kids.
