Thomas Goodwin Green better known as T.G.Green founded the iconic Cornishware brand more than 97 years ago. Sadly in 2007, the business went into administration following some very challenging times.
In 2008 Karina Rickards and her husband Charles resurrected this much-loved brand with the help of two fellow enthusiasts. They fell in love with the iconic striped pottery business. And have poured their heart and soul into making it a thriving brand we now know and love.
It’s clear to see from Karina’s Instagram posts that she LOVES the brand. She talks passionately about each piece, you can see it’s a labour of love.
Karina and Charles will tell you it has taken a lot of hard work to rebuild the brand. Every member of the family mucks in, including the Rickard’s five children. Its a true family business.
The pottery is lovingly created in one of the barns at their beautiful family home in the South West of England. They also have a menagerie of animals and very often you will find Karina hand-feeding a baby lamb. In her spare time she attends to her beautiful garden, as well as hand paints several hundred pots a day! She’s like superwoman.
What I love about the brand is there’s a great mix of designs, new and old. If like me you are particularly crazy about pottery, then nothing is more exciting than the anticipation of a new design or a limited edition … you literally cannot wait to see what’s about to be revealed.
I recently was lucky enough to acquire a beautiful limited edition Yellow mixing bowl and im sure you will agree its a beauty.
Business is now thriving and going from strength to strength. The Rickards family and their team of 15 staff members offer a lovely personable service and you cannot avoid being swept up by their passion for this iconic stripy collection.
At One Chic Mom we love to support small businesses and our team have recently received their own personalised Cornishware 10oz mug and we think they are lovely.
